The tongue can be a blessing and a curse. Often we say things before realizing their consequences. The Proverbs in scripture give us plenty to think about, before we open our mouths.
Remove dishonesty from your mouth.
Put deceptive speech far away from your lips
Chapter four: verse twenty-four
A good-for-nothing scoundrel is a person who has a dishonest mouth. He winks he eye,
He devises evil all the time with a twisted mind.
He spreads conflict.
Chapter six: verses twelve through fifteen (partial)
Wisdom is found on the lips of a person who has understanding Chapter ten: verse thirteen (a)
Whoever give an answer before he listens is stupid and shameful
Chapter eighteen: verse thirteen
A fool's mouth is his ruin.
His lips are a trap to his soul.
Chapter eighteen: verses six and seven
Do not talk directly to a fool, because he will despise the wisdom of your words.
Chapter twenty-three: verse nine
Every word of God has proven to be true. He is a shield to those who come to him for protection.
Do not add to his words, or he will reprimand you, and you will be found to be a liar.
Chapter thirty: verses five and six
"Dear Lord, forgive me for the times I have both blessed and cursed from my mouth." Remind me to guard my mouth and my tongue to keep myself out of trouble, as you teach me in Chapter twenty-one: verse twenty-three

I totally agree with you; Lori; I know there's a Bible verse that says we bless the Lord with our tongue and then turn around and curse man; we need to keep control of the tongue (as you know, James chapter 3 talks a lot about the tongue)
